Argentine-born guitarist, vocalist, and Samba Cruz Quartet leader Pablo Rivière channels classic bossa nova and MPB (Música Popular Brasileira): elegant nylon-string fingerstyle guitar with gentle syncopated grooves, lush jazz-infused chords, and refined restraint that lets the melody breathe—paired with warm, gentle vocals of measured phrasing and intimate delivery.
Bay Area reed master Zack Pitt-Smith (clarinet, saxophone, and flute) co-leads the acclaimed choro ensemble Grupo Falso Baiano and Oakland Samba Revue. A longtime public-school educator, he has brought his students to the stages of Yoshi’s, SFJAZZ, and Pixar’s Soul. His melodic finesse and improvisational depth shine in Brazilian contexts, informed by years of education and performance.
